Site-Specific is a two-channel video, that was filmed at the Monument to the Negev Brigade, in Be’er Sheva, Israel.
The Monument to the Negev Brigade, known locally as the Andarta, is a monument designed in 1963 by Dani Karavan in memory of the members of the Palmach Negev Brigade who fell fighting on Israel’s side during the 1948 Arab Israeli War. The memorial consists of 18 brutalist buildings and minimal structures entwined with patriotic historical elements.
Located at the outskirts of the city Be’er Sheva, the beauty and climbable components of the Andarta inspire visitors to engage and claim the site in playful activities around and over the structures of the memorial.
Site-Specific follows two stories: the story of Tomer, a yoga teacher who was born steps away from the memorial site which he considered as a childhood playground, and a documented visit of two artists at the memorial, discovering its beauty and uncanniness.
